These barrels are made to store sake and turn it into TaruZake - sake flavoured by the Cedar barrel itself. These have been used to hold sake. Made from Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria Japonica) and Bamboo, these barrels are cooper craftsmen built and unique to TaruZake making.
It is exceptionally rare to have these in the UK. SakeShoten is the sole importer. Made by the artisan craftsmen at the Kiku-Masamune Sake Brewery.
To enter the UK these barrels have had heat treatment and have a Photosanitary Certificate for importation.
Can be used as water butts in gardens and as ornamental water pieces. The barrels should be ideally kept filled to avoid drying out in hot temperatures.
Weight approx 13KG, Height 55cm, Top width 59cm, Base width 48cm, Volume 72 Litres.
These are hand made and used, so each barrel will differ slightly in size and construction. There are marks where the craftsman has built the barrel and also a strong Sake and Cedar smell inside the barrel. There are makers marks and imperfections, which is normal.
